Overview
This was my first project posted on LEGO Ideas, and is an attempt to put a new spin on an old theme that I think LEGO has been missing for a long time: Western or Wild West. Instead of looking at the western life from the perspective of "Cowboys and Indians", this project looks at the life of the settlers who traveled west into new territory.
The Settlers' Frontier Cabin offers great playability with the ability to remove the roof, back wall and loft (not pictured), but still creates a very nice looking four sided building. Much like a log cabin that would have been built by those who settled across North America, this is very small and there are not a huge number of accessories. One thing that is very unique to this project is the use of the microfigure as a baby. This is something that has been lacking in the minifigure realm of LEGO pieces. Short pants were first introduced in 2002, according to the BrickLink database allowing for minifigure children, but it has only recently been announced that there will be an official LEGO baby coming our in set 60134 this year. It would be interesting if this makes it to the LEGO Ideas review process to see if The Lego Group uses the microfigure or the new baby figure they are creating.
Areas for Potential Improvement
One area that this project can be improved upon is the direction of the logs. In a real log cabin, the logs would run in the horizontal direction. However, the pieces used to build this particular cabin make it look like the logs are running vertical, although the protrusions at each of the corners do give the impression that there are logs running in the horizontal direction.
Conclusion
This is a good project that has the potential to pass the LEGO Ideas Review almost as is if it reaches 10,000 supporters. To see more pictures and to offer your support, you can click here to visit this project on LEGO Ideas.
